Dr. Ghazi Named Dean for North America

Dr. Sarmad Ghazi, Associate Dean for North America, has been promoted to Dean for North America.

“As Associate Dean since 2014 and a faculty member since 2011, Dr. Ghazi has demonstrated constant devotion to the University and its students, thus earning him the promotion,” says Taffy Gould, OUM’s Founder and Chairman of the OUM Council.

Dr. Ghazi taught the Cardiovascular, Respiratory, and Gastrointestinal system-based modules, as well as Behavioral Medicine and Biostatistics. In 2016, he was selected by the students for the University’s highest faculty honor, the Educator of the Year Award.

As Dean, Dr. Ghazi will oversee the University’s academic offerings in North America, including clinical clerkships and helping to ensure that students are prepared for USMLE. Dr. Ghazi’s growing University-wide duties include Clinical Course Director for Internal Medicine and as lead faculty member to assist faculty in setting up classrooms and examinations in Moodle, as well as to orient students to the University’s technology including Moodle and Proctortrack. He chairs the Admissions Committee and serves on the University’s Academic Board and several committees including Curriculum, Student Affairs, Clinical Phase Review, Student Progress, and Steering.

Prior to joining OUM, Dr. Ghazi practiced medicine in his native Iraq and received his MBChB from the University of Baghdad. He is a volunteer for a number of professional and community organizations and lives in Houston, Texas.
