Associate Professor Athol Mackay RFD, BScMed(Sask), MBBS, FRACSDean for Australia and New Zealand & Clinical Course Director
Associate Professor Athol Mackay has fifty one years experience as a medical practitioner in civilian and military appointments. He has served as Medical Superintendent and a GP in Biloela in Central Queensland, Surgical Registrar and Paediatric Surgeon in Brisbane, and Executive Director of Medical Services of South West Health Services Queensland. Associate Prof Mackay also served 50 years in the ADF as a General and Trauma Surgeon deploying overseas five times in the period 1990 to 2005.
He has been dedicated to medical education over all his years in medicine, supervising medical students, surgical registrars and teaching on seventy five trauma courses and many courses preparing junior doctors for service in the country regions. After retiring from clinical practice, Associate Professor Mackay has been delighted to have been given the opportunity to continue to educate medical students at Oceania University of Medicine.
