Dr. Mackay will establish and maintain productive relationships with medical education directors and surgical clerkship preceptors, hire/supervise clinical student advisers, and work with them to track student progress. As Clinical Course Director for Surgery, he will set learning objectives, conduct orientation/content lectures, and design assessments. A pediatric surgeon, Dr. Mackay has chaired both the Pediatric Staff Society and the Department of Pediatric Surgery at Mater Children’s Hospital and been a Surgical Registrar at Princess Margaret Hospital for Children and Royal Children’s Hospital. He is a decorated former military surgeon in the Australian Defence Force and recently retired from General Surgical Practice at Kooralbyn Family Practice and Maranoa Medical Centre Roma. He is an Associate Professor at The University of Queensland Rural Clinical School, earned his BSc (Med) at the University of Saskatchewan (Canada), and his MBBS from The University of Queensland.
