MARCH STUDENT CONFERENCE

AMC Exam prep and more headline next month’s event

The 2018 OUM Student Conference in Australia is coming up 10-11 March, with a Meet & Greet on Friday evening, 9 March. As of late January, 40 students had registered, while 70 was the final tally of attendees in 2017. The conference is again being held at the Best Western Hotel & Convention Centre near the Melbourne Airport.

Dr. Johannes Wenzel

AMC Exam Preparation will be presented by Dr. Johannes Wenzel, former examiner for the Australian Medical Council and now a popular coach and expert on advising international medical graduates (IMGs) how best to approach the exams.

“We are very lucky to have Dr. Wenzel attending the Student Conference. He is very passionate about teaching international medical graduates and has helped several hundred IMGs get through the AMC exam,” says Dr. Meshach Kirubakaran, OUM Dean for Australia.

Next month’s program also includes:

  • an Introductory Clinical Skills session with OUM Vice Chancellor Dr. Viali Lameko and Dr. Sarmad Ghazi, OUM Dean for North America
  • OUM Class of 2016 graduate Dr. Paris Pearce will discuss his experiences and offer advice
  • Research opportunities and the research requirement covered by Deputy Vice Chancellor and Director of Research Dr. Randell Brown.
  • Additional OUM faculty and administrators attending will be Taffy Gould, Founder and Chairman, OUM Council; Dr. C.S. Benjamin, Dean for New Zealand/Asia Pacific; Chris Dudley, Deputy Vice Chancellor of Administration and Student Affairs; Joy Braun, Associate Director of Administration and OUM’s Registrar/Bursar.

There is no charge for the conference, but students need to cover costs for travel, accommodations, and some meals.

Students from all countries are encouraged to attend, if they are able. The conference is a great opportunity to connect with classmates, graduates, faculty, and staff. Last year’s conference was a memorable experience for all attendees. Anyone with questions should contact Joe Korac.
