The founder of Oceania University of Medicine (OUM), Taffy Gould, arrived in Samoa early Monday morning for her first visit to the country in more than a decade.
Gould, 84, an American philanthropist, landed on a Virgin Australia flight at 3:15 am.
She held a meeting with Prime Minister La’aulialemalietoa Leuatea Schmidt and the Health Minister Va’aaoao Salumalo Alofipo on Monday.
Gould founded OUM with a vision to improve medical training and healthcare across the Pacific. The visit comes as the university marks 25 years since the Oceania University of Medicine Act was signed, which enabled its establishment.
